Training
We are an approved training practice. We are involved
in the specialist training of doctors to become General
Practitioners and also in the teaching of medical students from the
University of Birmingham. We feel that providing teaching helps us
to improve as a practice, it provokes us to continually update and
improve our practice.
This means that we will often have a doctor in the later stages of
their training working at the surgery (Registrar). You may be
offered an appointment to see one of the Registrars when you ask for
an appointment. The Registrars have a great deal of experience
and may be able to offer you an appointment more quickly than one of
the partners. You may feel however that you would rather see one of
the other doctors at the surgery and it is OK to ask for
this. We will always be able to provide you with an alternative
appointment.
As part of their education registrars will sometimes be videoing
their consultations, this is so that their consultation skills can
be reviewed later in a teaching session. You will always be asked
prior to the consultation if you are happy to be videoed, it is fine
to say no. If you are happy to take part in one of these sessions
you will be asked to provide written consent. Any physical
examination will not be videoed.
We also have final year medical students with us from time to time
as part of their studies. You will never only see a medical student
and you will always be reviewed by one of the partners. By seeing
the medical student you will be providing an invaluable learning
experience for them. You will always be asked if you are prepared to
see a medical student and asked to provide written consent for this.
Please tell the receptionist if you do not want to see a medical
student or if you would rather see the doctor alone, this will
always be OK.
